(1) The 10M weekly users disclosure is the growth-engine receipt for the Presence + Ads Manager self-serve + Small Business triple ship OpenAI ran across Jul 21–22: the agent runtime is categorically the fastest surface OpenAI has ever grown, and the ChatGPT Work half of the bundle went from launch (Jul 9) to 10M weekly in ~12 days, doubling every week since mid-Jul. That is faster than the original ChatGPT Nov-2022 ramp on every comparable window, and it's happening on a paid + free bundle where the agent half is doing work rather than answering questions. The competitive read for Anthropic: the Cowork desktop app is categorically a different DX (screen-record-a-skill, Skills SDK) and there is no equivalent weekly-user disclosure — if Opus 5 ships this weekend, the obvious parallel disclosure would be a Cowork MAU or Skills-invoked-per-week number to blunt the OpenAI tape. Two reads. (1) The stateless half is the infrastructure reprice that every hosted MCP server in production has been waiting for since mid-2025. Under the current spec, a remote MCP server needs sticky sessions, a shared session store and often deep packet inspection at the gateway to route MCP calls to the server instance holding the session — which is why the hosted-MCP segment has been Cloudflare Workers, Vercel and Anthropic's own MCP tunnels (Jun 22) rather than every platform. On Mon Jul 28, any MCP request can land on any server instance, tools/list responses become cacheable with ttlMs and cacheScope, the Mcp-Method / Mcp-Name headers make header-based routing a load-balancer-native concern rather than a gateway plugin, and the InputRequiredResult pattern replaces the SSE stream for elicitation so any instance can pick up the continuation. This is the "from local tool to distributed protocol" transition in one week: the reported ~10,000 public MCP servers and SDK downloads in the tens of millions monthly now run on infra that looks like ordinary HTTP instead of a bespoke session runtime. (2) The extensions half is the agent-runtime reprice. Two reads. (1) The backlog print is the headline, not the revenue growth. $514B of Google Cloud backlog, up >$50B sequentially, is the largest comparable hyperscaler backlog on the tape and it is being burned into the Cloud P&L at 82% YoY. The tripling of Cloud operating income to $8.81B means the marginal $ of Cloud revenue is finally higher-margin than Search, which is the P&L reprice the Google-vs-hyperscaler debate has been waiting for since 2023. That is the substrate against which every frontier-lab compute deal this month (AMD-Anthropic 2GW, Anthropic-Meta $10B, Nvidia Rubin full production) is now getting priced — and it explains why Alphabet is willing to raise its capex guidance mid-year: the backlog supports it.
